Privacy Policy

This website tells you about SmoothLapse and lets you join the early-access list. This page explains what happens to your information. In short: we count page views ourselves, without cookies or third-party trackers, and we only use your email to talk to you about SmoothLapse.

The early-access list

If you join, we collect your email address, what you’d like to film (if you choose to tell us), the page you signed up from, and how you found the site (for example a search engine, or the link you followed). We also keep your IP address and browser details with your sign-up, to help us spot fake and automated sign-ups.

We use this only to email you about SmoothLapse: when it’s ready to try, pricing before launch, and the odd progress update. The “what you’d like to film” answers help us decide what to build and write about first. We never sell your details or share them for anyone else’s marketing.

The list is kept in our own database, hosted on Microsoft Azure. We keep you on it until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you. If we start sending emails through a mailing-list service, we’ll name it here.

Messages you send us

If you email us or use the contact form, we keep your message and email address so we can reply, and for as long as the conversation is useful.

Page views

To see which pages are useful and how people find the site, we record each page view: the page, the site or link you came from, your browser’s description of itself (its user agent), whether you’re on a phone or tablet, your IP address, and a random number for the visit. That number is kept only while the page is open, so it can’t recognise you on a later visit. The records are kept in our own database on Microsoft Azure and aren’t shared with anyone.

We count page views even if your browser sends a “do not track” or Global Privacy Control signal. Global Privacy Control asks sites not to sell or share your data, and “do not track” asks them not to follow you across other sites. We don’t do either: the records are only used by us, to count visits to this site and, if you join the early-access list, to see how you found it.

Cookies

This site doesn’t use cookies, advertising trackers or anyone else’s analytics. Its fonts and scripts come from smoothlapse.com itself, so no third party learns about your visit.

Like any website, our hosting provider (Microsoft Azure) may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, for a short time to keep the site secure and running.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to:

tell you what information we hold about you, and send you a copy
correct anything that’s wrong
delete your information, or take you off the list
stop using your information for a particular purpose

Every email we send has an unsubscribe link. For anything else, email smoothlapse@gmail.com and we’ll respond within one month.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) or the data protection authority where you live.

Changes to this policy
